Bobby L asked:

Hi, i was thinking about a new hobby. it is to raise some racing pigeons. the question is, how can i tell between a good racer and a not so good one. i just don’t want to be ripped off.

how do i check the rings in their eyes, their wings/ feathers, pedigree and structure?

Bobby, please don’t fall for myth. Ignore the eye-sign; ignore the way the scales on the leg look; ignore the color of the eye; the color of the feathers, etc. — Look for a local flyer who is winning. Ask him/her if he’d be willing to share/sell some young from his best racing pairs. Birds that race well often breed birds that race well. I suggest that you contact both the IF and the AU Both organizations have mentors who are willing to help out newcomers to the hobby.

Sometimes they are able to help the newcomer get very good stock to start with as well.
