Tom Lehrer – Poisoning Pigeons In The Park

Tom Lehrer on Amazon.com: www.amazon.com Tom Lehrer songs on iTunes (outside the US): www.apple.com The song in this video was written by Lehrer as early as 1952 or 1953 (may be even earlier), years before a German version appeared, for which Lehrer did not get any credit. Sometimes Lehrer himself would cover other people’s songs, but they were always credited. “Poisoning Pigeons In The Park” is a true Tom Lehrer original. What do you expect? If you feed pigeons, they’ll see you as a constant food source, and they’ll never migrate.

“Life is skittled and life is beer” Now we know why he is posioning pigeons in the first place. He was drunk!

  4. Yamanoneko says:

Societal attitudes toward feeding pigeons have hardened. At about this time, Mary Poppins sang “Feed the birds, tuppence a bag” as a lullaby. Nowadays, feeding the pigeons is against the law some American cities; one block in Chicago posted a sign threatening a $500 fine for doing so!

Without Tom Lehrer, we would not have the likes of Mark Russell or Weird Al Yankovic. All his songs are harmless, except to pigeons of course, and can offer a laugh when you need one. It’s a good day, when you can listen to music like this. You can understand the lyrics AND the music is enjoyable.

    ‘disease-ridden pests’ eh..
How will they give you disease? It’s not like you’re going to pick one up and rub it on your face, so stop worrying :P

Brilliant…. i **** pigeons in the park & city centres, “flying rats” is the best way to explain how much of a disease-ridden pest they are in urban areas.

WHY do people feed them, they’re not “cute”, why not go to the park & feed the ducks instead… would that be so hard?

In Southampton they have become so fat they can hardly fly.

Fortunately the local council has finally seen sense & is trying to discourage / make it a criminal offence for people to feed our urban pigeons.
